The reassessment type determines what assessment structure is created in the resit record. Only 'identical' and 'different' are supported in the Assessment Hub. If you have an identical or different reassessment type (/resit scenario) you can use the Assessment Hub to calculate a new course result. If you have an unsupported resit scenario you'll need to calculate outside the system. The reassessment type is chosen during the "Set up Assessments" stage but it can be changed later.Read the guidance below to see if you have an identical, different or unsupported resit.IdenticalAn identical resit means the student will resit their failed assessment with exactly the same structure from first sit. This includes all components and items under that assessment. If you choose "identical reassessment" then when a student goes into resit, the exact same structure for the failed assessment will be copied over. The system will expect new marks to be entered for the components and items. When you calculate a new course result the system will take into account the marks for any assessments that were passed at first sit.Example scenario for "Identical"A course has two assessments - one called "Coursework" and one called "Exam".A student on the course has passed the Exam at first sit but failed the Coursework. There are two components under Coursework and each have items attached:Coursework (assessment)Written assignments (component)Essay 1 (item)Essay 2 (item)Group work (component)Presentation (item)Case study (item)If the reassessment type is set to "Identical" then the resit record will show this full Coursework structure and expect marks to be entered for all items - Essay 1, Essay 2, Presentation, Case study. When you calculate a new course result through the system it will take the passed exam mark from first sit and the new marks for the Essay 1, Essay 2, Presentation and Case Study from the resit. How to process "identical" resitsSee the guidance on Identical resits for instructions on how to process these scenarios.DifferentA different resit means the student will resit their failed assessment but with a different underlying structure. If you choose "different reassessment" then when the student goes into resit, only the top level assessment will be copied over without components and items. This means you would need to calculate the new assessment result outside the system and enter this into the resit record. When you calculate a new course result the system will take into account the marks for any assessments that were passed at first sit.Example scenario for "Different"A course has two assessments - one called "Coursework" and one called "Exam".A student on the course has passed the Exam at first sit but failed the Coursework. There are two components under Coursework and each have items attached:Coursework (assessment)Written assignments (component)Essay 1 (item)Essay 2 (item)Group work (component)Presentation (item)Case study (item)If the reassessment type is set to "Different" then the resit record will only show the assessment "Coursework" and will only expect an overall Coursework mark to be entered. When you calculate a new course result through the system it will take the passed exam mark from first sit and the new Coursework mark from the resit. How to process "different" resitsSee the guidance on Different resits for instructions on how to process these scenarios.Unsupported resit structuresIf your resit structure is neither Identical nor Different as described above you cannot calculate resits through the Assessment Hub. This includes where a student has passed assessments in first sit but a resit is to now count for 100% of the course.Instead you need to work out the new final course result using other methods outside the system and then enter this into the student's record. It doesn't matter which "Reassessment type" you choose because this scenario is not supported and you have to ignore any structure that appears in the resit record. For guidance on processing these scenarios please see Unsupported resits. Changing the reassessment typeIf you need to change the reassessment type between "Identical" and "Different" you can do this either:in the Set up Assessments screen before first sit results have been ratified, orusing the "Change reassessment type" button that appears after first sit results have been ratified.Process with screenshots Document How to change the reassessment type (664.55 KB / PDF) Next stepsOnce the reassessment type has been chosen based on your resit scenario you can enter resit marks. Some guidance you may find useful:Unsupported resitsIdentical resitsDifferent resitsNull sitsResits on honours or PGT coursesUndo resits This article was published on 2024-07-29
