Scaling methods

Details of the scaling methods currently supported in EUCLID.

The board will need to advise which method to use and what values to scale with.

Angoff Linear Interpolation

This method involves changing the minimum pass mark value and the excellence mark value. For example, on undergraduate courses the standard pass mark is 40 and excellence is 70. The scaling process would decide a new pass value, e.g. 35 and new excellence value, e.g. 65. These new 'cut points' would be applied to the assessment and when you calculate new course results, the student's marks would be adjusted accordingly.

There is Angoff 40/70 for Undergraduate and Angoff 50/70 for Postgraduate.

Percentage adjustment

This method is used to adjust marks within a mark range by a percentage, either positive or negative, in order for the marks to be scaled up or down.

Linear adjustment

This method will adjust marks within a range by a specified number, either positive or negative, in order for the marks to be scaled up or down.

Next steps

Once you know what method to use and what the scaling values are then you can scale marks.
