How to prepare your portfolio submissions.

Submissions to Art & Design Degrees (except Film and TV)

Images

You can submit five images per section. Each image can be a maximum of 20MB and any resolution. Give your image files sensible names.

Each image can be accompanied by a short description of maximum 255 characters.

Images can contain multiple pictures.

The accepted file types for uploads are .jpg, .jpeg and .png.

Upload your images and text

  1. Once you have logged into the portfolio tool, you can see the programmes you must submit portfolios for. These will be the same programmes you have applied for in UCAS.
  2. Click ‘Start’ on the application you wish to submit a portfolio for. You will see the four tasks you have to complete, which are reflective of the four grading criteria.
  3. Click on the section you wish to upload the images to. Click on ‘Attach File’ and select the images you wish to upload for that section. Ensure you are uploading your images to the correct sections of the portfolio tool. Use the ‘…’ to add your 255 character descriptions as required.
  4. When you have uploaded all of the images you wish to submit, click on ‘Mark as Complete.’ Repeat this process for all four sections until each section has a green tick next to it.
  5. Click ‘Submit.’ A pop up box will ask if you wish to Review, or Submit your application. We recommend you ‘review’ the application before submitting to ensure that you are happy with the images you have selected and the captions you have written. Once you have submitted your portfolio, you are unable to change your submission.
  6. You will know your portfolio has been submitted as on the main portfolio portal page you will no longer be able to submit, only view your submission.

Submissions to Film and TV

Applicants to Film and TV must submit a short film or movie clip and answer three questions. We recommend you answer these questions in a word document, and then paste your responses into the portfolio tool when you are ready to submit.

Written Questions

The questions you must answer are as follows:

  1. What element of filmmaking do you feel most passionate about and why? (Maximum 250 words)
  2. What attributes do you feel you would bring to the course and what have you done so far that evidences this? (Maximum 250 words)
  3. Which scene or sequence in a film has made a real impression on you and why? We are not looking for a description of the scene or sequence but how you have been inspired by this. (Maximum 250 words)

Video

Please ensure you are familiar with the brief as detailed here.

The film should consist of a dramatic, documentary or experimental work. The film should be no more than five minutes long and ideally be a complete work, or else a strong exercept that shows your ability to express a story or concept through audio-visual material.

If your film is not in English, it should include English subtitles.

You should upload your film to a video sharing site such as YouTube or Vimeo, and ensure your content is not password protected. Please ensure your video does not breach any copyright rules which would result in it being taken down from the host website.

Copy and paste the URL to your video into the portfolio submission portal.

Upload your video and written responses

  2. Click ‘Start’ on your Film and TV application. You will see the two tasks you have to complete.
  3. Paste your video link, and ‘mark as complete.’
  4. Click on ‘Film and TV Portfolio – Questions’ and then enter your written responses into the text boxes.
  5. Once you are happy with your answers, click ‘Mark as Complete.’ If you wish to come back and edit before you submit, click ‘Save and Continue Editing.’
  6. Click ‘Submit.’ A pop up box will ask if you wish to Review, or Submit your application. We recommend you ‘review’ the application before submitting to ensure that you are happy with the images you have selected and the captions you have written. Once you have submitted your portfolio, you are unable to change your submission.
  7. You will know your portfolio has been submitted as on the main portfolio portal page you will no longer be able to submit, only view your submission.

 

Submitting your portfolio(s)

You can begin the process of uploading and editing your portfolio from the 1st of December onwards. Once your portfolio is submitted, you are unable to edit it again, so please ensure you are completely happy with it before submitting.

Please do not leave this process until the last minute. We strongly recommend beginning the process of uploading your portfolio well in advance to give yourself plenty of time to use the tool.

In order for your portfolio to be assessed, it must be submitted. We cannot see your portfolio unless you have pressed the submit button, and therefore it cannot be assessed.
