Completing Registration

Registration is the first step of the matriculation process and is required for all new and continuing students each year, including online distance learners.

Registration confirms your acceptance of the University of Edinburgh’s regulations, and is the first step in you being formally admitted as a student to the University.

By registering, you confirm your acceptance of the University of Edinburgh’s regulations and begin the formal process of admission as a student. Confirming your funding or arranging payment of your student academic fees is a required step in completing your registration.

When to register as a student

Approximately 4 weeks prior to your programme start date, and if you hold an unconditional firm offer, registration will be available in the My Student Record channel in your MyEd account and this is accessed from the Accounts menu. This is the same for continuing students and the form will be available in the weeks before you are due to go into the next year of your studies.

You will receive an email to your University of Edinburgh email account to let you know when this online form is available for you to complete. You should complete registration as soon as possible to start the matriculation process and signify your intention to take up your place or to continue your studies at Edinburgh.

How to register as a student

Step 1

Log in to My Student Record in EUCLID using your University login details. You will see an invitation to register.

Step 2

Provide the required information in the registration form, which includes:

  • confirmation that you wish to accept or decline a programme place
  • personal and emergency contact details
  • previous qualifications (for new students)
  • confirmation that you have read and accept the University of Edinburgh’s regulations

Step 3

Complete the ‘Academic Fees and Payment' section to confirm that the academic fee amount displayed is correct, and then select from the following options:

  • pay your student academic fees in full
  • set up an instalment plan instruction
  • confirm that any pre-submitted UK government funding, sponsorship, grant or international educational loan details are correct
  • provide new details of UK government funding, sponsorship, grant or international educational loan

If you are in receipt of funding, but your funding does not cover the full tuition fee, you will need to pay the remaining balance as part of registration, either in full or in instalments.

To complete this section of registration you will need the following:

  • Card or bank details – Required to process any applicable academic fees during registration.
  • Sponsorship, grant, or government funding details – Required to ensure your academic fees are charged correctly if you are externally-funded.

How you pay your academic fees depends on whether you are a self, internally or externally-funded student. Externally-funded students will be required to provide evidence of funding before starting online registration to ensure the information displayed in the academic fees section is correct. Please see our guidance on sponsorship and how you can provide proof of funding here: Sponsorship
