Case study 2

View guidance on creating your Degree Programme Table (DPT) using a typical structure used within the University, including a structure that asks students to choose....

The following steps demonstrate how to create a common 120 credit UG structure for a single year using rules that enforce a selection of 40 compulsory credits and 80 elective credits of which 40 must be taken group A and 40 credits from group B. Each group contains two blocks. It is easier to think of groups as blocks within blocks.

Once you have created your new DPT structure you can use the amend DPT function which will present you with a list of individual years that require rules to be set for each one.

If you select a single year you will be taken to the following screen.

To create the first group select the 'Add block' button at the bottom of the screen.

Repeat this step to create the second group.

For each group select the 'Change group limits' button and set them both to between 40 and 40 credits.

You will be presented with a layout similar to the following screen.

To add a block within a group select the 'Insert' button within the group and select the 'Insert rule here' option.

This will take you to the screen that allows you to manage the rules for each block (See case study 1 for further information on creating blocks).

For the purpose of this example set the credit limits to between 20 and 20.

Repeat these steps to set up the remaining blocks so you have two blocks within group A and two blocks within group B.

Between each of the two blocks in each group set the operand to 'AND'.

Between group A and group B set the operand to 'AND'.

You will see a screen similar to this for each group.
