We have gathered useful guidance and links here that colleagues may find useful when processing student results during a Marking and Assessment Boycott (MAB). Processing timeline and overview MAB: Assessment hub and Progression & Awards Guidance IA Flags Industrial Action Impact flags must be used in all cases where Industrial Action impact is suspected.Flagging course results with Industrial Action Impact | Student Systems | Student Administration Disregarding assessment elements IA Impact flags should be applied at course level prior to using the disregarding function. Disregarding can be actioned via APT at student, element or course level.Disregard Components | Student Systems | Student Administration Changing course result from Mark/Grade to Grade only (Pass/Fail) An overall mark of either P - Pass or FL - Fail can be added via Process Course ResultsChange grades | Student Systems | Student Administration Handling missing marks Where marks are missing due to MAB, apply the IA flag at course level in Assessment Hub. When entering marks, the mark field should be left blank. Do not enter a 0 or any other value.Where students genuinely did not attempt the assessment (separate from any MAB impact), add a note of "DNA" to this effect in Assessment Hub. When entering marks, the mark field should be populated with Absent (AB).Prior to calculation, use the export marks functionality in Assessment Hub to get an overview of the full marks in the assessment structure along with course notes, ensuring that any blanks that would be calculated as DNA are legitimate MAB missing marks. All other missing marks should be genuine Absents and display as AB.Flagging course results with Industrial Action Impact | Student Systems | Student AdministrationEntering marks | Student Systems | Student AdministrationGrid entry marks | Student Systems | Student AdministrationCourse Board Reports in BI Suite | Student Systems | Student Administration Assessment structures do not reflect all assessments for the course Assessment structures should be created accurately initially to reflect all assessment.Weighting assessments | Student Systems | Student AdministrationBut where all efforts to do this have been exhausted, apply the IA flag at course level and disregard as appropriate or manually amend marks.Flagging course results with Industrial Action Impact | Student Systems | Student Administration Award processing Awards should be processed in line with the decision of the Board of Examiners and the agreed variations to the Taught Assessment Regulations. This flag, in combination with course level flags will allow Student Systems and Schools to work together and report on students with awards that require review once MAB missing marks become available. Student Systems will also change their award to Interim until another final award is ready. Student Systems are developing reports to facilitate this. Student Access On 3 August 2026, Student Systems will reinstate all students who have received an award and where MAB marks are still missing. The students will then display as Interrupted (awaiting outcome due to industrial action impact) with an expected end date in the future. This will help students maintain access to their accounts to view their marks and to ensure their submissions still available on Learn for marking.Student Systems will contact Schools in advance of 3 August to check which students should be affected.Schools should contact Student Systems by email where they believe a student should be returned from interruption, for example, to undertake reassessment. Highly Likely to Complete letter A letter will be available to all graduating students who are affected by MAB. The letter will display their marks along with the courses where marks are yet to be confirmed. The letter will be available in the documents section of Euclid.MAB affected graduating students will be able to view their Highly Likely to Complete Letter, final HEAR and graduate documents until 1 August 2026 when Student Systems will reinstate them as interrupted (awaiting outcome due to industrial action impact).Student Systems will manage the availability of this letter based on the award data entered by Schools and IA flags applied at course level.
