The Scholarship Award The University is offering a new international scholarship for the most academically gifted Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Masters students applying from India. These awards cover £5,000 towards tuition fees for PGT Masters students studying on campus during the 2024/25 academic year. The Scholarships will be tenable for the first year of study only and will be automatically deducted from your student tuition fee balance. Eligibility Criteria The India Merit Scholarship will be awarded to any successful applicant who: Firmly accepts an unconditional offer to join any of the University’s full-time, on-campus PGT Masters programmes. If you are required to pay a programme deposit for your Masters programme, and you do not accept and pay the required deposit within the given time frame, then you will forfeit your scholarship offer as well as your programme offer Is domiciled in India at the time of application Has international fee status:International Fee StatusIs either fully or partially self-funded Has achieved an undergraduate degree studied and awarded in India at the minimum level outlined in the table below. For entry into the 2024/25 academic year, the scholarship will be automatically awarded to every eligible unconditional offer holder who achieves the listed grades. No separate application is necessary, and the scholarship will be automatically applied to your student tuition fee balance. Please note that your CAS will show the full tuition fees for your programme of study. However, it will also note that you are the recipient of a scholarship, to the value of £5,000 that will be deducted from the full student tuition fees when you enrol at the University. As this information will be included on your CAS, you do not need to include a letter confirming the India Merit Scholarship with your visa application. Please make sure that you have accepted your offer via the Applicant Hub:Applicant HubYou must provide any information and documents that have been requested. You should also make sure that you have paid any deposit noted in your offer letter, by the relevant deadline. The £5,000 will be deducted from your student tuition fee balance once you have enrolled at the University. Will the tuition fee deduction show on my CAS? Your CAS will show the full student tuition fees for your programme of study. However, it will also note that you are the recipient of a scholarship, to the value of £5,000 that will be deducted from the full student tuition fees when you enrol at the University. If you have a full tuition fee scholarship from an external third party, you will not be eligible for the India Merit Scholarship. You may still be eligible for this Scholarship if your other external funding does not cover all your tuition fees, and the combined total of all the awards does not surpass the full tuition fee for the academic year. The India Merit Scholarship is a £5,000 student tuition fee reduction only, and applied directly towards your tuition fees. It is not transferable as a cash award, or in any other format. If you have an external scholarship which covers your tuition fees, you are not eligible for this funding. I have applied for another University of Edinburgh scholarship – can I accept both? No – the India Merit Scholarship cannot be held with another University of Edinburgh scholarship. If you are offered multiple awards from the University, you must select which one you wish to accept. You must inform us by email if you are in receipt of any other University of Edinburgh scholarship or bursary, or if you are later successful in gaining another scholarship from the University. futurestudents@ed.ac.ukI have an unconditional offer; how do I make it firm? You can accept your offer using the Applicant Hub, with more information available at:Accepting the offerI want to defer my place to next year – will I still receive this scholarship? It is not possible to defer the India Merit Scholarship - it is only available to students starting their studies in the 2024/25 academic cycle, so if you defer your place the Scholarship will be withdrawn. Can I appeal if I haven’t been awarded the India Merit Scholarship? There is no right to appeal if you have not been awarded the scholarship. Any disputes related to the scholarship will be handled via the University’s complaints process, details of which can be accessed at:Making a complaintHow do I apply or show I am interested? You do not need to apply for the India Merit Scholarship – you will automatically be considered and assessed for eligibility by our admissions teams, as your application for the programme is reviewed. We will inform successful scholarship applicants after they have accepted an unconditional offer for an on-campus, full-time Postgraduate Taught programme, and once the necessary administration has been completed. My friend has been offered the Scholarship; how can I be considered? We are sorry to advise that if you have not been contacted directly by the University, you are not eligible for the India Merit Scholarship.
