Edinburgh College of Art EU Scholarship Scheme

Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) is committed to ensuring a strong and ongoing connection with students from the EU. The ECA EU Scholarship Scheme increases accessibility for EU-based students to ECA’s taught Master’s programmes.

This scholarship is for eligible EU-based students who obtain a place on a taught Master’s programme in any of our five Subject Areas: Architecture & Landscape Architecture, Art, Design, History of Art, and Music.

Award

Each scholarship award is worth £15,800 for entry onto a 12-month* full-time postgraduate taught programme at ECA in September 2024. The award is paid as a tuition fee reduction from the normal International fee rate for the given programme.

*Please note that eligible students enrolling on the 2-year PGT programmes listed below will receive the scholarship in each of their 2 years of study:

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must satisfy both of the following conditions:

  1. You hold an unconditional offer for full-time study on a postgraduate taught Master’s programme at ECA from September 2024. See “Criteria”, below, for more information about what this means.
  2. You are an EU-based student, categorised by the University of Edinburgh as having “EU-EAA Fee Status”, and hence you would normally pay the full International tuition fee. To be categorised as an EU-based student, you must satisfy all of the below:
    • Be an EU national or non-EU national with settled status in the EU.
    • Be ordinarily resident in an EU/EAA country at the point of application.
    • Demonstrate three years residency in the EEA before the relevant date of 1 September 2024, unless residency outside of the EEA has been of a temporary nature only.
    • Note that your fee status is determined by the University during the usual process of applying to study on an ECA PGT programme – there is no additional step or application required by the applicant.

You are not eligible for the scholarship if:

  • You have settled or pre-settled status under the United Kingdom’s EU Settlement Scheme.
  • You are enrolling on an online Master’s programme – online programmes are not included in the scheme.
  • You are from the Republic of Ireland – this is because you are not charged the full International tuition fee.

Please also note:

  • This scholarship is not transferable to programmes outside of ECA.
  • If you defer your entry beyond September 2024, award of the scholarship is not guaranteed.

Criteria

Academic and English language requirements

To obtain an unconditional offer of a place on an ECA postgraduate taught Master’s programme you must meet the academic, English language, and any other published admissions requirements of the programme. These requirements may vary by programme, and full information can be found via the given programme’s entry on the University Degree Finder website, available at:

Applying

There are no additional steps required to apply for the ECA EU Scholarship Scheme. Eligible students will be contacted automatically by the University and informed of their eligibility when an unconditional offer of a place at ECA is achieved.

Payment of the scholarship

The scholarship is paid as an automatic tuition fee reduction from the normal International fee rate for the given programme, thereby reducing the effective tuition fee to be paid by eligible students. Payment of the scholarship is applied upon enrolment at ECA in Autumn 2024.
