ASiT - Edinburgh Surgery Online Bursary 2025-2026

Edinburgh Surgery Online will offer bursaries to support ASiT members undertaking the MSc in Surgical Sciences and the MSc in Patient Safety and Clinical Human Factors online learning programmes.

Important Information

We have decided to pause entry to our ChM programmes for 2025/26. We are taking time to revise our teaching offering so have closed entry for this year.

A number of bursaries will be awarded each year.  Each bursary is worth £1500 and will be awarded to successful applicants in each year of the programme, subject to successful progression.  The maximum award available per student is £4500.

Students will be required to meet the cost of the balance of the annual tuition fees. Furthermore, the bursary award is credited towards the settlement of the fees and not paid directly to students. If successful, students do not need to apply for the bursary each year as it will automatically roll over on successful progression into the next year of the programme.

Applicants must be:

  • Applying to the MSc in Surgical Sciences or the MSc in Patient Safety and Clinical Human Factors programmes
  • A current member of the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT)
  • Must be resident in the UK for the duration of the programme
  • Working in a supervised clinical environment in the UK and will be for the duration of the programme.

Additionally, applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.  Preference will be given to those who have an unconditional offer at time of the scholarship application deadline.

Currently matriculated students are able to apply for the bursary; however, priority will be given to applicants applying for 25/26 entry.

Please ensure that you upload a copy of your current CV/Resume.

Applicants must also include a personal statement (of 400 words maximum) which addresses and/or confirms each of the following:

  1. Confirm that you are continuing your learning in a supervised clinical environment in the UK and will be for the duration of the programme.
  2. Explain why you consider yourself to be a worthy recipient of an ASiT bursary and specifically, any financial limitations you currently face.

The bursary will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the strength of your personal statement.

To apply and for further information please see, please see Scholarships: Clinical Sciences

The deadline for applications for this scholarship is 23:59 BST on 2nd June 2025.

All applicants will be notified of the result of their application by 29 August 2025.
