Business scholarships and prizes

Awards are available to both undergraduates and postgraduates.

Undergraduate Student Prizes

The Business School proudly presents a range of prestigious awards to honour and reward exceptional achievements. These esteemed prizes are generously funded by donations from the Business School, individuals and corporations committed to celebrating excellence. 

 

Award details:

  • Recognition: The award is recorded on the student’s Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) transcript.
  • Certificate: Recipients receive a certificate from the Business School.
  • Monetary Prize: A monetary prize accompanies each award, details below.

Notification: Winners will be announced following the June Board of Examiners, just in time for summer graduation.

Deans Prize for Best Dissertation

The prize is allocated to the student with the highest dissertation mark in each of the six Business School subject areas; Accounting & Finance, Entrepreneurship & Innovation, Marketing, Management Science and Business Economics, Organisational Studies and Strategy.

  • Monetary Prize: £250  

Colin Gilbert Dunnan Prize 

The prize is allocated to the student with the best overall performance in Year 2, in a Business School MA (Hons) degree. 

  • Monetary Prize: £100

Alexander Darling Prize 

The prize is allocated to the students with the best overall performance in the course Global Challenges for Business and The Business of Edinburgh. 

  • Monetary Prize: £1000  

Ella Pentland Campbell Prize 

The prize is allocated to the best performing woman student, in Accounting & Finance MA (Hons) and Accounting & Business MA (Hons) degree. 

  • Monetary Prize: £80  

WV Stevens Prize 

The prize is allocated to the student with the best overall performance in a Business School MA (Hons) degree. 

  • Monetary Prize: £250  

Merchant Company Prize

The prize is allocated to the student with the highest dissertation mark on a topic in accounting. 

  • Monetary Prize: £250  

Iain Isdale Hird Prize 

The prize is allocated to the student with the highest dissertation mark for a Business School MA (Hons) degree, in any Business subject area.

  • Monetary Prize: £700

Irvine Lapsley Prize

The prize is allocated to the student with the highest dissertation mark on a topic in accounting, across Accounting & Finance MA (Hons) and Accounting & Business MA (Hons) degree.

  • Monetary Prize: £500

 

 

 

Postgraduate Taught Student Prizes

Academic Excellence Award

We are thrilled to announce the Academic Excellence Award, presented to the top-performing student in each programme. This prestigious award recognises the student with the highest overall average and is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

 

Award Details:

  • Recognition: The award is recorded on the student’s Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) transcript.
  • Certificate: Recipients receive a certificate from the Business School.
  • Monetary Prize: A £500 prize accompanies the award.

Calculation Method: The overall average is calculated using the formula: (taught averagex120 credits + dissertation marksx60 credits)/180 credits.

 

Notification: The prize winner will be contacted after the October Board of Examiners, ahead of the November graduation.
