Edinburgh Global Online Learning Scholarships for Refugees and Displaced Students

The University of Edinburgh will offer 20 scholarships for eligible refugees and displaced students studying towards a part-time distance learning programme offered by the University.

Each scholarship will cover full tuition fees and will be tenable for the normal duration of the programme of study. 


Scholarships will be available for applicants that are displaced and/or have refugee status commencing an eligible part-time online learning programme offered by the University in session 2025/2026.

Applicants must be displaced in countries based within the categories 'Least Developed Countries', 'Other low income Countries' and 'Lower Middle Income Countries' as stated by the Organisation for Economic Corporation and Development Assistance Committee. Please note the eligible countries are not a 1:1 match to the full DAC list. Rather, the DAC list has been used as an information source to help define the set of eligible countries:

Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so.


The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the strength of a personal statement.  Priority will be given to those who have not had the opportunity to study at masters level previously.


Applications for this Scholarship are currently closed but will be opening during w/c 27/05/2025. 

The deadline for applying for this scholarship is 23.59 (UK Time) on 23rd June 2025.

Eligible applicants should complete an online scholarship application.

You do not need to wait until you have received an offer in order to begin the scholarship application process.

In order to gain access to the scholarship application system applicants must have applied for admission to the University of Edinburgh.  Please note that, following the submission of an application for admission, it can take up to five working days for all system checks to be completed and for access to be granted.

Applicants will be asked to include the following within their personal statement: Within your personal statement please include: (a) the specific elements of this programme that attracted you to the University of Edinburgh; (b) confirm how successful completion of this programme will benefit your career and personal development: (c) how this will enable you to contribute to your community/region and (d) your current legal immigration status.
