The University is offering an international scholarship for academically gifted Postgraduate Taught (PGT) Masters students to study eligible programmes in the University’s School of Chemistry and School of Engineering. These awards, which cover £2500 towards tuition fees for PGT Masters students studying on campus during the 2026/2027 academic year, will be tenable for the first year of study only. Terms and Conditions • You will only be eligible for the Scholarship once you have received and firmly accepted an unconditional offer (after meeting all the conditions of your offer, including, where relevant, the payment of your tuition fee deposit) to join one of the University’s eligible, full-time, on-campus PGT Masters programmes in the University’s School of Chemistry or School of Engineering, and meet the grade requirements outlined in Table 1 or Table 2.• Your overall weighted average will be used to determine the grade requirement eligibility. Your overall arithmetic average will not be considered. • This scholarship is a £2500 tuition fee reduction only, and applied directly towards your tuition fees. It is not transferable as a cash award or in any other format.• The following programmes in the School of Engineering are ineligible for the China Merit Scholarship: MSc Biomedical Engineering; International Master of Science in Fire Safety Engineering; MSc Sensor and Imaging Systems.• Only one University of Edinburgh scholarship per student can be accepted, and you must inform us by email at futurestudents@ed.ac.uk if you are in receipt of any other University of Edinburgh scholarships or bursaries. If offered multiple awards, you must select which one to accept. In the absence of instruction from you, we will award the higher-value scholarship.• The China Merit Scholarship is only available to students starting in the 2026/2027 academic cycle, therefore it is not possible to defer the award of this Scholarship to future academic years.• If studying on a programme of more than one year in length, the Scholarship can be used for the first year of study and the first year of attendance only.• Candidates receiving a full tuition fee scholarship from an external third party for the academic year would not be eligible for this Scholarship. However, if you are receiving partial tuition fees from an external third party, you may still be eligible for this Scholarship, as long as the combined total of all awards does not surpass the full tuition fee for the academic year.• Award recipients are responsible for all costs and expenses relevant to their study, accommodation and other matters which are not covered by this Scholarship, including any remaining tuition fee payments, accommodation, meals, books, travel, etc. As detailed above, you may be required to provide a tuition fee deposit for your programme of study if this is a requirement of your offer.• This Scholarship is personal to each recipient and cannot be transferred to any other party.• If at the point of registration, a student is recorded as self-funded and in receipt of the China Merit Scholarship, the invoice issued will be reduced by the scholarship amount. If, at a later date, the student is awarded a full scholarship, they would then be required to advise their funder that the original invoice included the China Merit Scholarship, which does not apply when a full scholarship is in place, and to refer to the offer letter.
