The Scotland Scholarship (for students pre 2020 entry)

• Scotland domiciled
• Living outside the City of Edinburgh at the time of application to the University
• Eligible to receive a guaranteed offer of University accommodation
• In receipt of a Young Students' Bursary, an Independent Students' Bursary, or a Care Experienced Student Bursary

Enhanced Scotland Scholarships (i.e. instead of the standard award) will be provided to students who commenced their undergraduate degree in the 2017-2018 academic session or later.   Students must also be a resident in an SIMD1 postcode (including SIMD1 postcodes within the City of Edinburgh), whose family income is in the lowest income band as confirmed by the Scottish Government.  Students who are in receipt of a Care Experienced Student Bursary are also eligible for an enhanced award. These higher level Scholarships have been funded jointly by the University and the generosity of alumni donors and other supporters.

There is no application form for the Scotland Scholarship. The University will use the level of government bursary provided through the Young Students' Bursary or an Independent Students' Bursary when assessing your award entitlement. All Care Experienced Student Bursary recipients will automatically qualify for the enhanced Scotland Scholarship.

To be automatically assessed for a Scotland Scholarship in 2023-2024 you must apply to be financially assessed by SAAS and be awarded a YSB,  ISB or CESB before 31 March 2024. Students who are not awarded a YSB, ISB or CESB by 31 March will not receive a Scotland Scholarship in that academic session.

You are guaranteed to receive an award for every year of your degree programme that you receive a YSB, ISB or CESB.

Additional Deadline Information:

We are unable to backdate any missed payments for previous academic years.  All payments are made for the current academic year and must be claimed by the deadline of 31 March.
