Carnegie Vacation Scholarships

The Carnegie Trust offers scholarships to penultimate year undergraduates to undertake an independent research project in any academic field of study.

Scholarships are for students who would like to undertake a programme of independent research of direct benefit to their studies.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for this Scholarship scheme if you:

  • are an undergraduate student who is enrolled at a Scottish university, the Glasgow School of Art or the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland may apply (provided they meet the other eligibility criteria).
  • are approaching your final year of study: year 3 of a 4 year degree, or year 3 or 4 of a 5 year degree.
  • reside in a low-income household (please refer to the income thresholds as listed on the Carnegie Trust webpage)
  • are entitled to live and work in the UK. Where applicable students will be asked to prove that they hold the right to work full-time in the UK.
  • have never previously held a Carnegie Vacation Scholarship.

Applying

Applications for the 2025-2026 academic session are now open.

The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 13th of February 2026.

Notification

All applicants will be notified of the outcome in April 2026.
