Students from ScotlandYou have an extra year (known as +1) of full support available for:an academic repeat yeara medical or compassionate repeat yearan Intercalated Year (for those that study medicine or dentistry)a change of courseThe extra year (+1) does not apply to the Paramedic, Nursing and Midwifery Student Bursary (PNMSB).SAAS don’t need any supporting evidence to explain why you need to repeat the year. The +1 year of funding will be automatically applied to your award if you're entitled to it.You cannot use your entitlement to a +1 year if:you have a qualification at that level or higheryou have already used the +1 year in previous study Care ExperiencedCare Experienced is someone who’s been in care or 'looked-after' at any stage of their life, no matter how short. This care could be in one of many settings, such as:foster carebeing looked after by your close family or friends under kinship care arrangement which is because you cannot remain with your birth parentslooked after at home with a compulsory supervision orderresidential careIf you are Care Experienced, you can get an extra year of funding if you need it to complete your studies.You can also use this extra year of funding to complete 1 year of your course over 2 academic years, which means you will get bursary and living costs grants in both sessions.SAAS will pay the fees in the first session and not split it over the 2.For further information regarding repeat years please refer to Previous Study - SAAS Registered with AttendanceThis applies if you are repeating a year of study and attending part-time -perhaps only repeating one semester or less than 80 credits.
