Nine awards are available. Scholarships Neil Arnott Scholarship for Experimental Physics A scholarship, to the value of £250 per annum for two years, is awarded to the most distinguished student in the Physical Laboratory who must assist the Professor of Physics in the laboratory during the ensuing session. If the Professor deems that no such student is worthy of the award, it may be given to a student for a degree in Art who passed the Physics examination with the highest distinction. John Lang Scholarship Two scholarships, to the value of £250, are awarded annually for high merit to a student in the School of Physics. Nicol Foundation Scholarship A scholarship, to the value of £350 per annum for two years (or longer on the recommendation of the School of Physics), is awarded annually to a deserving student who must regularly attend as an assistant in the Physical Laboratory and who must give his or her whole time to promoting the study of Physics there. This award cannot be held with any other scholarship or bursary. Mackay Smith Scholarship A scholarship, to the value of £200, is awarded alternatively in Chemistry and in Physics on the basis of examinations in the respective subjects. Holders of the award must attend respectively Chemistry or Physics classes or prosecute the study of the subject in the University during at least one year of their two year tenure. Bursary Donald Fraser Bursary A bursary, to the value of £200, is awarded annually for high merit and proficiency in class and laboratory work in the School of Physics. The holder must assist in the physical laboratory and engage in research there. Prizes Brodie Memorial Prize Two prizes, to the value of £125, are awarded on the recommendation of the Professor of Physics to a student in the School of Physics. Ramsay Memorial Prize Two prizes are awarded to the best student in the Astronomy class and to the best student in the Final Year Honours Astrophysics class. The awards are books to the value of £10 and £30 respectively. Marion A S Ross Prize A prize, to the value of £200, is awarded annually to a student who, being about to enter the final year of undergraduate study in Physics, has distinguished himself or herself in Classical Physics. The prize money is intended to assist a student in purchasing books for his/her studies. Tait Medal and Robert Schlapp Prize A medal and prize, to the value of £100, are awarded annually to the student (or students) most distinguished in the application of Mathematics to Physics in any appropriate Honours degree.
