The School of Biological Sciences is offering bursaries for applicants studying eligible Postgraduate Taught Master’s (PGT) programmes in the 2026-2027 academic session. Awards We are offering up to two bursaries for eligible full-time students that will cover all tuition fees. For most of our programmes, these are £20,100 for UK students and £45,410 for International students (please check the Degree Finder for specific information on fees).These awards are intended to allow highly skilled and motivated applicants to study here who might otherwise not be able to afford the opportunity. Eligibility The bursary will be awarded to one international Biological Sciences offer holder or up to two offer holders from the United Kingdom who have firmly accepted (or intend to accept) the offer for admission to an eligible postgraduate taught master’s degree programme commencing in September 2026.Eligible programmes are:Animal Breeding and GeneticsBiochemistryBioinformaticsBiotechnologyData Science for BiologyDrug Discovery and Translational BiologyEcology, Evolution and BiodiversityEvolutionary GeneticsHuman Complex Trait GeneticsQuantitative Genetics and Genome AnalysisSynthetic Biology and BiotechnologyPlease only apply if you have already received an offer (conditional or unconditional). The bursary selection panel can only consider your application if you hold an active offer throughout your bursary application process (meaning if your offer is declined at any point up until the bursary decision deadline you will no longer be eligible).You can request an extension to your deposit payment deadline based on awaiting the outcome of this Bursary application.You will not be eligible for this bursary if:you are fully sponsored by your employer;you are already in receipt of a full bursary; oryou already hold or will hold a master’s degree or PhD qualification.Other eligibility requirements depend upon if you would pay UK or international fees. For UK applicants:You must be a UK national domiciled in the UK.In addition, you must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:You are care-experienced. We define care experience as any time spent in care at any stage of your life. Care may have been provided in one of many different settings, such as if you were:a. in residential care;b. in foster carec. in kinship care; ord. looked after at home with a supervsion requirement. This includes adopted children who were previously looked after. There is no age restriction on our definition of care experienced.Support for Students with Care ExperienceYou were/are in receipt of a Maintenance Grant as an undergraduate (if you started your undergraduate course after August 2016 you will need to provide evidence from the Student Loans Company to confirm your household income was assessed as £40,000 or less).You were/are in receipt of a Young Students’ Bursary, an Independent Students’ Bursary, or a Care Experienced Students’ Bursary as an undergraduate—as assessed by Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS).You live in an area within the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation lowest 20% (SIMD20).You live in an area with an Acorn classification of 5.To check your eligibility for the two postcode criteria above, use the postcode lookup tool. For international applicants:Applicants must be nationals from countries defined by the DAC List of ODA Recipients. These are countries that have been designated as low- and middle-income countries based upon gross national income as published by the World Bank, except for G8 members, European Union members, and countries with a firm date for entry into the European Union. Criteria The scholarship will be awarded broadly on the basis of academic merit.
