This has resulted in some additional challenges and difficulties for university staff preparing to assess the applications for the Edinburgh Access Scholarship. Please note to be eligible for the Access Edinburgh Scholarship, you must apply for a full maintenance loan from your funding body and confirm your consent to share your data with the University which should be a box to tick. If you are unsure that you have ticked this box, please contact your student funding body (SAAS, SFE, SFW, SFNI). The University of Edinburgh will then automatically assess your eligibility; there is no separate application process. Award letters will be sent out in September 2024. All payments are made for the current academic year and must be claimed by the deadline of 31 March.Frequently Asked QuestionsHow do I know if I am eligible to receive a University of Edinburgh Scholarship?The award is available to full-time undergraduate students who usually live in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. If you’re residual household income is £35,000 (2019-2020 start date only ) or £42,600 (pre 2019-2020 start date) or less, you will qualify for a scholarship. Both independent and dependent students are eligible as long as they meet the other eligibility criteria.How do I apply for a scholarship?In order to be automatically assessed for a University of Edinburgh Scholarship you must apply to be financially assessed by your regional funding body - Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, or Student Finance Northern Ireland. When you make your application for student finance you must opt for means assessment and give consent for information to be shared with us for administration purposes. Any family members whose income is assessed as part of your student finance application will also need to give their consent to share.How do I know if I have given consent to share my household income details?In your application for maintenance loans, and tuition fee loan you will have been asked whether you give consent to share your income details. Without this consent the University will be unable to assess whether you are eligible to receive an award. If you are not sure whether this consent has been given please contact the relevant funding body (see below). You can normally give consent to share over the telephone.When will I receive written confirmation of my scholarship?Confirmation of your award will be e-mailed to the address your Student Funding body holds for you, from August onwards. You should log into your student finance account and click on the correspondence icon at the top of the page to view your entitlement and payment schedule. If you are reassessed during the year e.g. your Student Finance assessment changes, then you will receive a reassessment award letter. Please note that the University reserves the right not to make an award where only a provisional household income assessment has been made.When will my scholarship be paid?In session 2022-2023, recipients will receive their award in two instalments:50% on Monday 31st October 202250% on Tuesday 31st January 2023 How will my scholarship be paid?Your award will be paid directly into your bank account by BACS (Bankers' Automated Clearing Services). If however as a result of the review, you are no longer entitled to receive the same level of scholarship support or you are no longer eligible to receive any award, the University will seek to either recover the overpayment from you or reduce any future scholarship payments.I am a part-time student, am I eligible to receive a University of Edinburgh Scholarship?The award is only available to full-time undergraduate student who are liable for the £9,250 tuition fee rate. Am I eligible for a scholarship?No. Second first degree students are not eligible for a University of Edinburgh Scholarship.I am going to be studying on the one year Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programme. Am I eligible for a scholarship?While you will be eligible to apply to your relevant government funding body for student finance support, you will not be eligible to apply for the University of Edinburgh Scholarship as the PGDE is a professional diploma qualification. The University of Edinburgh scholarship is only available to eligible undergraduate programmes.If I have to repeat a year of study, will I be eligible to receive the scholarship?Eligible students are entitled to one additional year of scholarship support during their programme of study, known as a +1 year. Please contact the scholarships and financial support team for more information.My planned degree includes a year studying abroad at another University, how will this affect my scholarship?Students from England, Wales and Northern Ireland studying on a year abroad are entitled to receive a scholarship. The levels will remain the same as those studying on-campus. In order to be considered you must apply to be financially assessed by your regional funding body - Student Finance England, Student Finance Wales, or Student Finance Northern Ireland.Student Finance re-assessed me in May and subsequently my household income is lower than before. Can my University of Edinburgh Scholarship be re-assessed?Students who are re-assessed after 31 March 2023 cannot receive a higher Scholarship for 2022-2023.
