The Defne-Mutar Kent Education Foundation Scholarship at the University of Edinburgh is a new Global Access Scholarship, launching in 2026. The Scholarship will offer sector leading financial support to an eligible undergraduate student joining the University from Turkey. The scholarship aims to support a talented student who may lack the means, or who is currently suffering significant financial hardship, to undertake international study. About the scholarship The Scholarship is designed to support talented students from Turkey with the costs of international study at the University of Edinburgh. In particular it will be offered to a student demonstrating strong academic potential but who faces significant financial challenges in completing a degree at the University. The University will consider a wide range of applicants’ personal, educational and economic circumstances. The Defne-Muhtar Kent Education Foundation provides support for Scholarships and educational initiatives. It shares with the University of Edinburgh a commitment to educational opportunity. Awards The University of Edinburgh will award one Defne and Muhtar Kent Education Foundation Scholarship in 2026. The award will consist of:£100,000 in total towards the tuition fee cost of a degree programme. The Scholarship shall fund £25,000 per year towards these costs. Eligibility The award is open to Turkish applicants currently domiciled in Turkey who will be commencing an on-campus undergraduate degree in the 2026-2027 academic year. Alongside academic and personal attainment, preference will be given to students who meet a range of the University’s widening access strategy markers. Including: First in family to attend University or international study.Evidence of financial hardship, previous necessity of Scholarship support.Any evidence of displacement or interruption to study to date. Criteria To be considered for the Kent Foundation Scholarship, you must initially;be a Turkish national domiciled in Turkey.have applied to and received an offer for an undergraduate degree programme at the University of Edinburgh commencing in September 2026. Applying Within your application you will be asked to include information on the following: Activities you have participated in at school. Examples might include arts, music, sports, debate teams, student government etc.Activities you have engaged in outside of school. These could include arts, music, sports, clubs, community engagement, hobbies, volunteering, social responsibility projects, etc.What you have done during the last three summers of your school yearsYou will also be asked to submit a 600-word essay detailing your academic and professional objectives, along with the research initiatives or projects you plan to pursue during your time at the university.
