The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) announced £55 million budget savings on 24 May as part of its contribution to the wider £6 billion in savings across Government, including a review of the FCO's programme spend led by the Foreign Secretary. The FCO Board has agreed that there should be a pause on all programme expenditure while the review is conducted. This review should be completed by the end of June or early July. This means that the FCO Scholarships Team have had to pause the Chevening programme for the duration of the review, including the selection process for all remaining partnership scholarship schemes which have not yet been concluded and the confirmation of awards to all scholarship candidates who have already secured places at universities. The FCO are aware of the uncertainties this may cause and they will be in touch again to confirm the situation as soon as they know the results of the review. The FCO are in close touch with the British Council about a number of time-critical cases such as pre-sessional English language training.
