The Binks Hub PhD Scholarship

The Binks Hub at the University of Edinburgh is offering a funded interdisciplinary PhD opportunity for 2023-2024 entry.

 Award

The award covers full UK level tuition fees and an annual stipend which will be set to the UKRI level. For reference, the UKRI level for 2022/23 is currently £17,668 for full-time students. An annual research budget of up to £2,000 is available to fund creative and arts-based activities (for example, collaboration with artists, and purchasing artistic materials).

Awards are made for one year in the first instance and are renewable for up to a further two years subject to satisfactory academic progress.

This project is available as a 3-year full-time PhD study programme with expected start date of September 2023. This award is open to UK students only.

Students will be co-supervised by an interdisciplinary team and will receive their degree from the School of Social and Political Science.

Eligibility

This award is open to UK students only. The scholarship holder will be enrolled on the full-time PhD Social Policy Programme.

Candidates should have a minimum of a first degree and/or a Masters degree in the social sciences, public health, community work or related subject.

We are specifically looking for applicants who will view their cutting-edge PhD research project in the context of the overall vision of the Binks Hub, who are keen to contribute to tackling social inequalities and whose work can build stronger relationships between the University and its range of research partners and collaborators. The successful candidate will work in an interdisciplinary environment and should be able to work independently and as part of the Binks Hub team.

Criteria

Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria for admission to the full-time PhD Social Policy programme in the School of Social and Political Science.

The successful candidate will be expected to actively collaborate with the Binks Hub team in supporting the Binks Hub postgraduate and early career network.
