Appeal Committees

The University has an Undergraduate Appeal Committee and a Postgraduate Appeal Committee.

The Undergraduate Appeal Committee considers any appeals submitted by undergraduate students, whilst the Postgraduate Appeal Committee considers any appeals submitted by postgraduate students. Both Committees comprises a broad range of academic staff from each of the University's three colleges. Staff can be committee members on both undergraduate and postgraduate appeal committees if they have relevant experience.

Role of the Appeal Committees

The Appeal Committees may:

  • Consider and decide whether individual appeals have established grounds for appeal according to the University's appeal regulations
  • Gather further evidence from appellants, staff, Schools/Colleges or other areas of the University to aid in their decision making
  • Determine if late appeals have provided extraordinary reasoning to justify their delay
  • Whilst they cannot make academic decisions; they may provide feedback to Schools/Colleges on appeal cases (even if they are not upheld)

Membership

Appeal Committee members are experienced members of academic staff, usually with considerable relevant teaching experience.  These members will be trained and briefed on the appeals process and regulations.
