In Scotland, the Quality Enhancement and Standards Review (QESR) is the current method used by the QAA to review and assess the effectiveness of higher education institutions’ approaches to securing academic standards and the quality of the student experience (previously, the external review method in Scotland was called Enhancement-led Institutional Review or ELIR). Yearly meetings with QAA help support the University’s ongoing commitment to quality enhancement. The University received the highest possible judgement from the latest QESR conducted in November 2023: "The review team is confident that the University of Edinburgh is making effective progress in continuing to monitor, review and enhance its higher education provision to enable effective arrangements to be in place for managing academic standards and the quality of the student learning experience."
