Vacation, maternity, parental and other leave

Leave entitlement and the Student Maternity and Family Leave policy.

Vacation leave

Students can take up to eight weeks’ vacation time in a year. Students should advise their supervisor and Graduate School when taking vacation leave. There is no need to apply for an interruption of study when taking vacation leave.

Vacation leave provides an opportunity for breaks throughout the year. Students who wish to use their full vacation leave entitlement for the year all at one time, for example to undertake an internship, placement or employment opportunity, are advised to discuss this with their supervisor.

Student maternity, parental and other leave

Students who are pregnant, about to become a parent or guardian, or adopt a child during their study should let their supervisor know so they can provide academic advice. Flexible arrangements, such as time off, modifications to attendance or interruption of study, can be put in place to support students who are to become parents and more information is available in the University student maternity policy. Students may also be entitled to leave on compassionate grounds which for students funded by a scholarship may be paid leave. Students should contact their Graduate School for further information.
