How to apply for coursework extensions or special circumstances.

Authorised interruption of study request

You should discuss your application with your Student Adviser, Programme Director, or Supervisor before you submit your request.

The below is a template form, which some Schools and Colleges have adapted. Please ask your Student Support Team or Graduate School to confirm which is the appropriate form for you to complete.

Leave of absence request (less than 30 days)

Apply for leave to study away from Edinburgh for a temporary period.

A leave of absence is required where students undertake compulsory and optional activities related to, or part of, the programme of study away from campus in Edinburgh. Examples of study related activity include conferences, workshops projects or placements, paid or unpaid placement activities including work placements, internships or other research activities. This includes postgraduate research students who are completing research or are in the writing up stage of their dissertation and undertake study related activity away from campus.

It is important that you speak with your Student Adviser if you're considering voluntary withdrawal from studies.

This form must be completed by any student choosing to withdraw.
