Self-funding

If you are a self-funded student, you can use your own money, or money from a parent, legal guardian or (in some cases) partner. If you use someone else's money, you'll need to show that you have their permission to do so.

How to provide financial evidence as a self-funded student

  1. Calculate the amount of money you'll need to show for your visa application.
  2. Move this amount into one or more accounts, in your name (or the name of your parents/guardian or partner. There may be additional requirements to meet, if not in your name)
  3. Hold the required full amount of money in the account(s) for 28 continuous days.
  4. Get a bank statement (or other official financial document(s)) to show that the money was in the account(s) for 28 continuous days. Please note it is necessary for the funds to have been held for a minimum of 28 consecutive days prior to the date of application (the date in which you submit your visa application online).
  5. Submit and pay for your visa application online within 31 days from the date of issue of bank statements or financial documents.

Using more than one account:

For combined financial evidence from two or more accounts, UKVI would normally consider these by taking the cumulative total across both accounts into consideration, provided the closing balance of both accounts falls within the require 31 days period up, until the date of application – and the funds in both/all accounts were held for the required 28 consecutive days
