Step 3: Book an appointment at a visa application centre and upload your documents

You will need to arrange an in-person appointment at a visa application centre.

Book an appointment

You will need to book a biometrics appointment to:

  • have your photo taken
  • get your fingerprints scanned in person

Appointments are either free or charged. This will depend on the visa application centre and country.

You can also pay for premium services when booking, such as having your documents scanned for you. You can find out how much these services cost at the visa application centre website.

Search for your nearest visa application centre

UKVI Update 10 October 2024

Applications outside the UK: Between September 2024 and January 2025, the commercial partner will change from TLScontact to VFS Global in some locations in:

  • Africa
  • Europe
  • the Middle East
  • Central Asia

Other parts of the world are not affected by this provider change.

Upload your documents

In most cases, you need to upload your supporting documents to the visa application centre’s website before your appointment. You should check with the relevant visa application centre what the process involves, in case you need to upload anything in advance.

If you cannot upload your documents in advance, there may be an extra fee involved. For example, you may have to pay to have your documents uploaded at your appointment.
