Visa document changes Applying for a Student visa from overseas:As you had your fingerprints and photo taken at a visa application centre, you usually get a vignette (sticker) in your passport which you can use to travel to the UK.You must also create a UKVI account to get access to your eVisa. If you create a UKVI account as part of the visa application process, you use this to access your eVisa to travel to the UK.From 15 July 2025 onwards, you may not get a vignette if you apply for a study visa. Instead, you will need to create a UKVI account and get access to your eVisa before you travel to the UK. You’ll be told what to do when you apply.You’ll still get a vignette if you apply as a dependant though. eVisa guidance What to do once your visa has been approved Once your visa has been approved, a vignette (visa sticker) will be added to your passport and you can start to plan your travel to the UK. You can only arrive in the UK on or after the start date of your vignette. Get your passport backYou will have to: pick up your passport at the visa application centre, orwait for your passport to be posted to you, orbring your passport to the visa application centre (this will depend on the country you apply from and on the service you have paid for) Your passport will have a visa vignette issued. This is a visa sticker that will allow you to travel to the UK for the visa purpose. The visa vignette is usually issued for a 90-day period (entry clearance), if you have a student visa longer than 6 months.Check your visa decision and vignetteYou should check the 90-day vignette in your passport as soon as you receive it. You need to contact the visa application centre (VAC) if there is any error in your personal details. You should have also received your visa decision by email. Please check that your visa duration details are all correct in this email. eVisaWhen you receive your visa decision letter, you will be told how to set up your online eVisa account. What you need to know about travelling to the UK Attend International Check-in When you get to the UK, we need to check your passport and immigration permission for your right to study. Make sure to book an international Check-in appointment for after your arrival to the UK. You should set up your online eVisa account and send us your share code in advance your appointment. You'll need to bring your passport and visa documents when attending your international check-in appointment in-person.
