Programme closures and changing programme

Our policy when the University is unable to offer a suitable replacement programme following the discontinuation of a programme, and what happens if a student changes to a new programme of study at the University.

Tuition fees in the event of a programme of study closure

Where the University is unable to offer a suitable replacement programme following discontinuing a programme under clause 12.5 of the Terms and Conditions of the Student Contract, the University will refund tuition fees on the following basis:

  • where a programme is discontinued during an academic year, the University will refund the tuition fees paid for that academic year
  • where a programme is discontinued at the end of an academic year, no refund of tuition fees for the teaching which has taken place will be offered

Where the University offers, and you accept, a replacement programme under the terms of the Student Contract, the tuition fee rate you are charged on the replacement programme shall be no higher than the fee rate on your original programme of study.

Reassessment of fee status for students changing onto a new programme of study at the University of Edinburgh

If you are currently enrolled on a programme, and are changing programme, we may reassess your fee status.

Reassessment of EU nationals on the Scotland fee rate

From session 2021-22 onwards, your fee status will be re-assessed if you are a student who is an EU national on the Scotland fee rate who commenced studies prior to 2021-22. This reassessment will be carried out using the Scottish Government Regulations.

If you were awarded Scots-EU tuition fee status prior to session 2021-22, you will need to provide evidence of your pre-settled or settled status granted through the EU Settlement Scheme in order to retain this fee level.

If you were awarded Scots-EU tuition fee status prior to session 2021-22 and have been awarded SAAS funding, please see their webpages for further information.

If you have not been granted pre-settled or settled status through the EU Settlement Scheme, your fee status is likely to be re-assessed as EU/International, unless specific exceptions apply to your status.
