British Overseas Territories

This information is for applicants living in British Overseas Territories, and applicants who are British Overseas Territories Citizens but live elsewhere including the UK.

We use guidance from the Scottish Government, which shows which fee status you are likely to be assigned based on your circumstances.

Please note the status given here is not guaranteed. We consider each application individually, based on the answers you give in your fee status questionnaire after you apply for your degree programme.

British Overseas Territories include: Anguilla; Bermuda; British Antarctic Territory; British Indian Ocean Territory; British Virgin Islands; Cayman Islands; Falkland Islands; Gibraltar; Montserrat; Pitcairn Islands; Saint Helena, Ascension & Tristan da Cunha; South Georgia & South Sandwich Islands; Turks & Caicos Islands 

 This applies to UK nationals who have a passport which states they are a “British Citizen” OR they have a parent who has a passport which states they are a “British Citizen”.  The applicant is ordinarily resident in the British Overseas Territory on the relevant date, and they have been ordinarily resident in the UK, British Overseas Territories, Gibraltar, the European Economic Area and Switzerland throughout the period of 3 years immediately preceding the relevant date.

If you have leave to remain or settled status in the UK:

This applies to British Overseas Citizens living in a British Overseas Territory on the relevant date who have no time limit on their residence in the UK, or they have been granted a form of leave to enter or remain in the UK, where that leave has not expired (excluding student visas).

They must meet the residency conditions of three years in the UK and/or the British Overseas Territory. Residence must not be solely attributable to the purpose of receiving education.

If you do not have leave to remain or settled status in the UK:

This applies to British Overseas Citizens who DO NOT have a passport stating they are a “British Citizen” nor do they have a parent with a passport stating they are a “British Citizen”, and they do not have any form of leave to enter or remain in the UK.

If you do not have a passport stating that you are a British Citizen, please refer to the guidance for overseas nationals living in the UK.


This applies to non-UK, EU, EEA or Swiss nationals living in a British Overseas Territory who are the relevant family member* of a UK national or of someone with UK Settled Status, who are ordinarily resident in a British Overseas Territory and who meet the residency conditions of three years in the UK or British Overseas Territory preceding the relevant date.
