Code of Practice for Supervisors and Research Students All supervisors need to be familiar with the Code of Practice for Supervisors and Research Students. This document covers baseline expectations, roles, responsibilities, annual reviews, absences and concessions, thesis submissions, examinations, and the student-supervisor relationship. It also points supervisors and their research students to essential services where appropriate. This is updated annually.Code of Practice for Supervisors and Research Students Online courses All new supervisors at the University of Edinburgh are expected to complete basic supervisory training. Academic Development provides two online courses: Fundamentals of PhD Supervision and Fundamentals of PhD Examination. Supervisor Community of Practice (CoP) The university-wide supervisor community of practice (CoP) is a collaborative online space for PGR supervisors to connect, share best practice, troubleshoot, build community, and grow their supervisory skills and knowledge. Codes, guidance and regulations There are a range of codes, guidelines, and regulations relevant to PGR supervision. Those important to supervisory practice are collected here. UKCGE supervisor accreditation The Academic Development team supports University of Edinburgh supervisors who apply to gain official accreditation of their supervisory practice with the UK Council for Graduate Education. Toolkits and resources The Academic Development team has created and collated a range of toolkits and resources to support PGR supervisors and their research students. Events and workshops The Academic Development team provides a range of events and workshops that support PGR supervisors. Doctoral College The University of Edinburgh Doctoral College is a coordinating structure for all postgraduate researchers (PGRs), supervisors and relevant staff at the university. It is designed to enhance and support the postgraduate student experience.Information about support for PGR students, including training, can be found on the Doctoral College webpages. Supporting student wellbeing Information on wellbeing services, helping distressed students, responding to issues and available training is available to PGR supervisors.
