Exceptional Circumstances Deadlines

In order to be considered, your application must be submitted by the relevant Exceptional Circumstances deadline.

Your application must be complete by the deadline - this includes providing all supporting evidence.

Exceptional Circumstances deadlines 2025/26

The following deadlines apply to all courses and programmes except those listed below in the "Exceptions to standard Exceptional Circumstances deadlines" section.

Late applications

We understand that in some situations there may be a good reason you cannot inform us about your situation before the Exceptional Circumstances deadline. You will see a banner on the Exceptional Circumstances system notifying you if you are submitting a late application after the University Exceptional Circumstances deadline.

If you submit an application for Exceptional Circumstances after the deadline, your progression or award decisions may be delayed. If you are in your final year, you may not be able to graduate on time.  

You will be required to provide evidence of a good reason to why you could not have submitted your application on time.

The following are unlikely to be considered “good reasons” for not reporting the situation earlier:

  • Not reporting due to embarrassment or shame
  • Not believing that the circumstances would impact as much as they did
  • Stating you were unaware of the support processes or unaware of the requirement to report
  • Not reporting due to wanting to keep the information to yourself
  • An expectation that School staff would not act reasonably
  • Not expecting a bad outcome
