Name pronunciation for graduation ceremonies

The graduation registration form will asked two additional questions to esure your name is pronounced correctly at your graduation ceremony.

We understand how important an occasion graduation is and we want to ensure we pronounce your name correctly. 

The guidance you provide is to support the presenter in pronouncing your name correctly at graduation. Whilst every effort will be made to say your name correctly there may still be slight variations in the pronunciation.  When completing the graduation registration form please think about the parts of your name that are commonly pronounced incorrectly and then try to spell them as they sound. Please do not use accents orspecial characters.

 

Two methods that can be used to write out your name are:

Sounds like

A “sounds like” is a familiar word that rhymes with your name for example;

Pogoda: Sounds like Paw-go-da

Defeng Sounds like “D-phone” with a soft f

Damhnait: Sounds like “Down-Ed”

 

Syllables

Break your name down to the sounds of each syllable as they would be said in English, you can also use upper case letters to emphasise sounds

Kutereba: “Coo-Teh-Reh-Ba”

Henrique: “En-Hee-Kay”

Arkless: “Ark-Less”

Iannetta: “Ya-Neh-ta”

 

At the graduation ceremony, your “Known as” name and surname will be read out.  If you want to amend your "Known as" name, please do so as soon as possible.  You can amend your "Known as" name yourself by following instructions for  making changes to your student record

Please do not delete your "Known as" name without replacing it with an alternative.
