If a student wishes to stop engaging in studies temporarily (for example, for health purposes), they will apply for an interruption of studies. If the absence is less than 60 days, no action will be taken and the student’s visa will remain valid. If the absence is more than 60 days, the student’s immigration status will be affected. The reason for the interruption (including severe illness, maternity, or other compassionate reasons) will not be taken into account by UKVI and the following actions must be adhered to: The student should be referred to the Student Immigration Service for full advice before proceeding with the interruption. If the student chooses to proceed, the interruption must be recorded immediately on EUCLID. In accordance with the legal obligations of our Tier 4 Sponsor Licence, the Student Immigration Service will make a report to UKVI withdrawing sponsorship of the student’s Tier 4/Student route visa. This must be done within 10 working days of the beginning of the interruption. There is no need to continue monitoring duties. An interruption of more than 60 days will normally mean: The student’s Tier 4/Student visa will be curtailed. The student will be given 60 days to make a visa application for an appropriate immigration category, or to leave the UK. The student cannot work in the UK.
