Holiday / vacation

Holiday periods are prescribed by the academic regulations and no monitoring or recording obligations will apply during these periods of time. However, it is important to note the definition of a holiday or vacation period for the different types of students.

Undergraduates

Holidays are in accordance with the academic calendar (i.e. Christmas, Easter and summer vacations)

Postgraduate taught students

Holidays are in accordance with the specific academic calendar for that programme.  For PGT students this may be the Christmas and Easter vacation if it follows the standard academic year. Vacation periods may differ for certain programmes that follow a non-standard academic calendar. Any student who is enrolled on a Masters programme must continue to study full time throughout the summer period, and engagement monitoring and reporting process must be adhered to.

Postgraduate research students

As these students do not work to the academic calendar, they are permitted to take holidays as and when the wish, providing it is agreed with the appropriate authority.

Postgraduate research students are permitted up to 8 weeks per year vacation leave.  This should be officially documented for all Tier 4 research students.
